Jumanji board game rules

The rules of the Jumanji table game are an essential thing to consider before you start playing.

How to play:

  1. Ask each player to choose one pawn and one escape dice and place the board with the danger cards shuffled and face down.
  1. Roll the number die and move your pawn along the path of your colour. If you find yourself on an empty space, draw a danger card.
  1. Flip over the hourglass and wait for other players to save you by rolling their rescue dice.
  • All players must roll an hourglass symbol or a symbol from a drawn danger card to save you.
  • If you are rescued, you can keep your pawn in the same place.
  • If you cannot escape, move your pawn back to the number of locations marked on your hazard card.
  1. If you land on Waiting Spaces 5 and 8, each player has a turn to try to save you by rolling a five or eight on the dice.

If they fail, you move back one square. The game continues until you are rescued or until you retreat far enough to reach the starting point.
  1. If you find yourself in a jungle area, take out the alert card and read it under the decoder (red filter disc for cards). Flip the timer over and all players will have to roll their rescue dice to match the symbol in the jungle space in order to escape.
  • If all players roll an hourglass or card symbol, everyone is safe.
  • If not, add a Doomsday Alert card to the Doomsday grid and keep drawing Doomsday Alert cards until everyone is safe.
  • Each player will need to roll a matching symbol or hourglass symbol to save everyone, otherwise the above steps will have to be repeated.
  1. The witch can be placed anywhere in the rhino. If you land on a space with a rhino, you are blocked until you roll an even number on your dice or another player lands on the same space and moves the rhino.
  1. If the Doomsday Grid fills up, all players have lost and the game is over.
  1. If you and another player reach the centre at the same time, the first player to call Jumanji wins.
