Games for two players
When you can't get a big group together, but you want to play, then games for two are the way to go. With only one opponent, it's easier to strategise and fewer people will get in the way.
What can be played for two?
First of all, we can remember the older games: checkers, chess, ship war. We can't even imagine more players, because they simply won't have anywhere to fit in. Everyone is fighting for themselves, no one can form any alliances (and sometimes they do).
Card games (classic or innovative like UNO) can also be played in pairs - no need to look for more people. Think two people are boring? Well, not at all - when you're caught up in the excitement but lose, you always want a rematch. Then it's up to your opponent to make up for it, and so on ad infinitum.
Don't forget that for some strategy games, two is enough. Take a romantic trip in Ticket to ride. Don't forget that there will be a lot of challenges to overcome, but together, you two will get through them. Unfortunately, only one will win. But you're both guaranteed to enjoy the journey.
Or is medicine more to your duo's liking? Great! Play Pandemic. Here you'll be the saviours of the world and you'll have to create vaccines for different diseases. And you won't be fighting against each other. So after the game, you can celebrate your victory together or console each other for your defeat. So, are you convinced that two players are enough for a good time?
What do I do when there are fewer people than the minimum number of players?
In a team game, one player can play as multiple characters. For example, in Pandemic. If you want to have more characters with different abilities, but there are two of you, one of you can control multiple characters at once. Then you'll have 3 or even 4 characters fighting against each other, instead of 2.
In games where wins are random (dice rolls, etc.), one player can also play with multiple pieces. The important thing is that he keeps his two teams separate and does not help each other.
